Fun Friday ~ Pink

You all know I love music. It has the power to lift and the power to move. I recently bought Pink's latest album and I must say I am loving it. Pink has the reputation for being a bad ass ~ which she is ~ however, I think at times it does her a disservice. Pink has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard. She can sing with the emotion like no other. She sang Glitter in the Air at the Grammys. You may have seen it. The presentation made it difficult to appreciate the song. Let me tell you, when I heard the song for the first time on the CD, I was mesmerized. It is the kind of song you never want to end. I could have put the Grammy performance up but I didn't. Instead I looked at several renditions on You Tube and chose the one I felt best represented the song ~ at least to me. Play it loud ~ it is the best way to appreciate Pink's exquisite voice.

Enjoy your weekend.

Fun Friday

When I wrote this post, it was a beautiful day here in the Washington, DC area. The sun was shining, it wasn't too hot or humid. It was lovely. I justified walking my dog three times to get outside and enjoy it even though I had many things on my desk to do. I think its because I read my friend's Karen post about mind set. I needed to get out of mine and walking my dog in the sunshine was just the thing.

Here's wishing you a wonderful weekend filled with sunshine and peace of mind.

Fun Friday ~ Week in Review

This was an interesting week on the personal front. Work was busy, busy... details, details... but life with the family was epic. Ok, so maybe I am exaggerating just a hair but still, it was a full week.

The first thing that happened was Lauren's pet hamster, Tulip, died. Lauren at the young age of seven has already attended family wakes and funerals. Her way to say good-bye is to leave a note or a piece of memorabilia in the coffin. This is her first pet to pass to the other side. We buried her in the backyard complete with memorial service and a gravestone that Lauren made. She painted a daisy on it and wrote "Good-bye Tulip, Love Lauren." The ground was damp so some of it came off but the sentiment is there.

After that we went to the Washington Nationals game where the now famous Stephen Strasburg pitched his first game for the Nats. We sat behind home plate. It was an amazing, fun time. Lauren yelled so loud she almost lost her voice. Jim snapped these pictures. The first pic you can actually see the ball flying though the air, which was difficult to see to the naked eye because his pitches were sooooo fast. Yup, at his very first Nats game, he broke the Nats record for most strike outs in a single game. How wonderful! The Nats hitters came to play too. There were several home run smash hits that sent the capacity crowd to their feet. Baseball is not my favorite sport to watch (football is) but with this year's team, I may just step up to the plate myself.... and watch :)
Last, but not least, Millie. Remember Millie, our rescue terrier mix? This week for the first time, Millie learned the joy of riding in a car with her face out of the window. I kid you not! Millie is a bit timid when it comes to certain things ~ like going into a bathroom. She WOULD NOT go into a bathroom when we first got her. We don't know why but after letting her know over and over again that the bathroom was a benign room, she finally ventured in. Perhaps she had some bad experiences in a bathroom that scared her but now she has no trouble at all coming in. She does not drink out of the toilet though ~ YAY! Getting back to the car window ~ at first Millie had difficulty getting into the car but, again, after she saw that the car was not an evil place she jumps in without hesitation. However, she would never get on the seat and stick her nose out the window. At first, Lauren held her on her lap and let her smell the air through the open window. Millie liked that. Next, I placed her on the seat by herself until she felt comfortable jumping up there on her own. Then I opened the window and drove around slowing a few times. Millie didn't venture up to stick her nose out for a while. But this week, she did. After a couple more drives, Millie is now sticking her nose out the window. When I say Millie is deliriously happy when she does this is not an over statement. When she looks at me after she does this, I swear she is smiling. Life is good.

I think we're going to get another hamster. I wonder if there are rescue hamsters... hmmmm?

Enjoy your weekend!

Fun Friday ~ Bathroom Makeover Contest

I receive emails all the time for folks wanting me to post something for them. Usually they would like me to show their work or support a product. I have shown work that I found to be very well done. Recently, I received an email from Ashley Albano ~ Public Relations, CSN Stores. It was about a contest for a bathroom makeover.

Did you see this? CSN Stores is an online company offering one lucky winner a bathroom makeover. I don't know anything about CSN Stores but it seems like a nice way to promote your company ~ give away a new bathroom. The best thing about it ~ they promise an eco-friendly bathroom. I'm all for that! So if you have one of these...

and you want one of these...

Source of picture ~ Natural Home Magazine

maybe you should hop on over there and enter the contest. Hey, ya never know! No, I didn't get anything for telling you about this. I didn't even tell them I was going to tell you. Just passing on what might be a very nice thing to happen to one of my readers. If you win, let me know. I'd love to see what they do for you.

Enjoy your weekend!

Fun Friday ~ Design Divas + One

My dear friend, Kristin, is in town meeting with interior design clients and customers for her eco-friendly line of furniture, the Kristin Drohan Collection. Naturally, we stole an evening to get the gang together. We call ourselves the Design Divas ~ why?? Because we can. Seriously, we are all in design or related artistic fields. It's a lovely group of women. Back row left to right ~ Paula, Karen, Andie, and Beverly. Front row ~ me, Kristin, and the plus one, Cindy. We had a fabulous time talking, laughing, eating, and drinking. Cindy was the designated driver for Kristin and I as she is with child (and had a foot or two sticking out every now and then during dinner). We were quite a show for the other patrons but the waiters sure seemed entertained. So Fun Friday actually happened on Thursday night. Who knew Thursday could be such a happenin' night?! In complete seriousness ~ where would we be without out girlfriends? So this weekend give a girlfriend a call and have a chat or better yet spend some time together. You'll be glad you did.

Enjoy your weekend!

Fun Friday ~ Dressing Rooms

For Fun Friday, I thought a good time would be had by all taking a look at the variety of dressing rooms out there. So naturally I tapped Architectural Digest on the shoulder for elegant and over the top ones. I was not disappointed. Just take a look at the one at the top. The restoration architecture was done by Richard Manion and the interior design completed by Craig Wright. Wow ~ that is quite a decadent vanity. A well placed sun lamp and one would tan from head to toe.

There are a few rooms that belong to the famous in this post. Can you guess whose dressing room this is?? Take a look at the colors. Who do they remind you of?? He also likes blue.... If you guessed Ralph Lauren, you are correct.

Another famous person. This time a songbird. This lovely creation by designer Mario Buatta is the dressing room of Mariah Carey. I think it needs a chaise with a small drink table. It certainly has the space for it!

Isn't this one magnificent?! The chandelier and lounge give it an extra special pop. I adore the piece in the middle. Love the floor. This is radial balance in all its glory! Samual Botera did a wonderful job designing this room.

Oo la la for Jackie O. Yes this room belonged to First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. She remodeled it as soon as she moved into the White House. Even though this room was done decades ago, it really is quite timeless.

And now for the classic elegance of Barbara Barry. I love everything about this space ~ the palette, the furnishings, its gentleness ~ magnificent!

Last but not least...

Can you guess who this room belongs to?? Another songbird ~ this time a man. The designer is Monique Gibson.... Yup, Sir Elton John. He has a room just for all his artful glasses. I have seen shoe closets like this but I must say, this is my first glasses one. It just makes me smile :)

Do you have a favorite? They're all wonderful in different ways. I must say though ~ I can see myself living in Barbara's room most of all.

Next week, I'll have more pics of the tweens room in process. Stay tuned...

Enjoy your weekend!

Fun Friday ~ Norah Jones & Sasha Dobson

I had the pleasure of seeing Norah Jones with my husband a couple of weeks ago at the beautiful Warner Theatre in Washington, DC. I'm finally getting around to write about it. It was a wonderful show. Definitely worth seeing is you like soft jazz. Her band is wonderful. Her side kick ~ 'back-up' singer, Sasha Dobson, is amazing. She was the opening act for Norah. I would see her by herself too if you can. Here she is...

Here's a song of Norah's to enjoy...

And one from Sasha ~ fabulous voice...

Fun Friday ~

If you read my blog on Monday, you'd know about my lovely new sponsor and about the giveaway. Today for Fun Friday, the winners are announced. Drum roll please........

And the winners are

Sherry from the wonderful blog No Minimalist Here. Sherry's comment ~ "I would love the Garden Flower hair Clips for my granddaughter. She loves hair clips and bows and would adore these!" was the first one pulled out of the hat (not very scientific but what the hay!).

Bob from the fabulous blog Bob Narod, Photographer. Bob's comment ~ "Bob" tweeted. Love the blue sky earrings. :)" Now since Bob tweeted, he was entered twice so the law of probability was with Bob. Here's the thing, Bob is actually MY photographer. He has taken all the photos in my portfolio. He's a wonderful photographer and a blast to work with. When his comment came out of my hat, I thought, 'Should I toss his name out of the drawing because we are colleagues?" Hmmm..... then I thought, 'NO' he entered just like all the rest. Now I am pretty sure the earrings are for his lovely wife but if he's wearing them at our next photo shoot, I'll let you know :)

There you have it ~ the winners of the beautiful items from my new sponsor Paula Designs and Snuggy Bunny Too. Check her shops out ~ you'll be glad you did.

Enjoy your weekend!

Monday's Method and New Sponsor & Giveaway

Welcome to Monday's Method.

Suzanne M left me a comment on my orange and purple post last week. She has a hardware dilemma. Let's see if I can help...

My wedding colors (in 1985!) were lilac and apricot. :~)

With that said, I have a question about another color combination. Though this pertains to hardware - doorknobs to be specific! We are remodeling our kitchen and doing stainless steel appliances and sink with satin nickel pulls on the cabinets. We are putting in new french door to the deck and have chosen satin nickel for that hardware too. Since we are going to repaint the entire first floor of our small house, we are going to replace the 20+ yr-old knobs with levers while the painters have taken the old ones off. I wondered if it would be okay to use brass everywhere but the kitchen- I do have a number of gold (or wood w/gold accent) framed pieces, gold mirrors, and some nice brass candlesticks. Is this a crazy idea?? Thanks for any advice!

Hi Suzanne ~

Yes, you may use brass in the remainder of your home. Long ago, the thought of everything matching was the status quo. Today, mixing it up is a good thing. A very important design principle to me is harmony. In harmony, there is unity for cohesion and diversity for interest. I see the different finishes as the latter. If you are concerned that there may be disparity, use the same levers for the French doors in satin nickel that you are using in brass for the other rooms. The style will be the unity; the finish, the diversity.

I have had people ask me about purchasing furniture suites versus selecting different pieces and blending them together. I, of course as would almost any designer, say the differing pieces will bring so much more interest to the room. Consider it a puzzle that initially may seem disorganized and difficult to pull together but in the end, it can be truly magnificent and a work of art.

I hope this helps!

Another reader left me a comment with a specific thing to look at. She even left me a link. For some reason, I cannot find the comment. I don't recall which post it was left on. Sorry! If you read this, please comment again with the link and I will attend to it.

Today, I would also like to highlight a new sponsor who has two Etsy sites. The first one is Paula's Designs (no, it is not me :). Here are a few of her lovelies...

Gorgeous jewelry, functional and lovely key chains and bags, exquisite painted glass ~ yum!

Her other site is devoted to little girls. This brings a smile to my face as my little girl loves this site! It is called Snuggy Bunny Too ~ here are a few from that adorable site...

Beautiful binky clips, bows and headbands, hair clips.... a little girl's dream!

So what do you think? Would you like something for yourself? How about for a little girl in your world?? All you need to do is visit one or both of Paula's Esty sites and leave me a comment letting me know what you would like to win. It is that easy. If you tweet about it or do a shout out on your blog, come back and let me know ~ I'll enter you into the drawing twice! Two winners will be selected randomly for this week's Fun Friday.

I also want to let you know that I have added on my right sidebar ~ Guest Posts. If you would like to be a guest writer on my blog, drop me an email and we'll chat.

I'm linking with these lovely ladies ~ all fabulous parties worth a long leisurely visit.
