Accessorize this Room...
A couple of days ago, I posted this room by dSPACE compliments of Houzz and asked if you like the ceiling. Between here and Facebook, folks in general, liked the ceiling. A point made was the room could become busy when fully accessorized. I agree so I did a brief search of accessories given my thoughts on what would be lovely in the space.
Here's my thinking ~ keep the room simple. Add white, textured, architectural groupings to the shelving similar to these...
The white color and form of each piece would pop off the gray. For a splash of color on the cocktail table...
a deep red charger. And for the side table...
the same color as the charger. The accessories compliments of Global Views.
I didn't venture into pillows and art. I just pulled the ones above out of thin air really based on form, texture, and color. It would be wonderful if the homeowner had a collection of something simple to display. But for a design exercise, I love the simplicity of the accessories above.

What do you think of this ceiling?
I like this ceiling a lot. The whole design really. I enjoy the complexity of the ceiling with the simplicity of the furnishings below. I would love to see it fully accessorized. I found this a Houzz by dSPACE Studio. What do you think? Is the ceiling a classic or a trend?

Thank you Houzz and Pangaea
Today this photo was selected by Pangaea to be featured in a published idea book on Houzz. Thank you very much for understanding my feminine sitting area. The idea book is all about feminine chair flair. I couldn't agree more ~ there ARE masculine and feminine designs and furnishings! I like to mix them up unless I am designing something very specific. Rooms with a View
There is always something quite special about rooms that bring the outdoors in or are seamless with nature. We've had tastes of Spring so I'm getting myself ready to be one with nature ~ again. I wish I was a snowbird but I'm not. I do love many scenes in winter but I enjoy the feel of warm breezes. It won't be long now!

Pops That Work For Me
My daughter would love this. That's her pink. My only question is where is the lighting?
I love the coral accent in this room. It develops a lovely rhythm across the room. The flowers are very well placed.
I know, I know but I just can't take my eyes off this picture. The sofa with the chandelier just work for me. Would I have this in my home? No. But I'd really like to visit this home. I bet they are fun!
The red is fantastic! The photographer was genius to incorporate the car lights.
And THAT is what art can bring to a monochromatic room.
I am working right now in a monochromatic master bedroom to bring in some color. I have just the thing for this bedroom. I'll share as I go.
I do love the pop. It just ignites the room. It doesn't have to make the room go up it flames if one doesn't want it to. A subtle pop that simmers and brings a gesture of heat will do.

Peaceful Slumber
I am on a serious bedroom kick. I've been spending so much time doing main floors ~ I'm itching to do a soothing master bedroom suite. I know this bedroom above is West Elm all the way but I love how soft and peaceful it appears.
I love the warm and cool neutrals in Claudia Leccacorvi's room. Calming and lush. Not to mention the exquisite view.
I like the placement of the sconce with the picture next to the window. I hope it is symmetrical.
I am doing three kitchens/great rooms right now. Details, details.... that's what kitchens are all about. Perhaps I'm on a bedroom kick because I need a good night's sleep ~ without all the details traveling through my dreams :)

Gray or Nay?
I grew up with gray for a while in my home. I didn't really care for it. Looking back, I think it had more to do with the finish than the color. I'm careful using gray because of it. Eggshell or satin are paint finishes I cannot use with gray. Flat or matte for me. I found these gray rooms on Houzz that I like. I must say, I still steer towards light versus dark with this hue. A friend recently told me she painted her family room charcoal. I got a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach when she said it. "I committed to it and I did it." She likes it so I am happy for her. Have I been there to see it yet? Nope.
What say you ~ gray or nay?

The lamps in these bedrooms make quite an impact. These designers new that they would. Jay Jeffers selected a portable lamp that literally glows, illuminating the elegant shape and form of the lamp's structure. Tracy Murdock adds drama and romance to her design with black crystal chandeliers. Mark English takes a monochromatic room and adds texture, of course, but also an edgy diversity that adds significant interest. Lamps in bedrooms are a detail that need attention and thoughtfulness but can often be overlooked. That is not the case in these examples. Follow their lead.

One or Two?

I am doing three kitchens right now so I am looking at inspiration photos from Houzz. I'm pretty firm on the one level island. I don't like the two level. I think it wastes precious space and makes the room as a whole appear closed. Here's the question ~ one large island or two smaller ones. What's your preference and why?
