Timeless Tuesday ~ Number Eleven

For today's Timeless Tuesday, I honor a style of furniture leg that dates back centuries ~ the cabriole.

This decorative leg form is a representation of a four-footed animal's front leg from the knee downward. The top curves outward ~ the knee ~ then curves inward toward the lower part just above the foot where it curves outward again and forms the foot. It is wildly accepted that the leg originated in China and traveled across Europe and then made the leap to England around 1700. Each culture had a slightly different spin to their cabriole leg but the basic shape went unchanged.

This style of leg continues in today's designs. Here are a few from Baker's Historic Charleston Collection and Hickory Chair.

And last but certainly not least ~ Hickory Chair's Gilded Lily Coffee Table in Silver. This is a fantastic example of how a traditional design centuries old can be made into a transitional style piece.

What's New ~ Kohler

Once again, no one has asked for advice about their home. Hmmm... I'm beginning to think either everyone has their home projects under control, or maybe no one is reading my blog, or folks are too embarrassed to ask. Well folks, the invitation still stands for advice on a specific issue in your home or any interior design question you may have so Monday's Method will live on.

If you do read my blog, you know that I have substituted new products on the market for Monday's Method. Today, we look at Kohler bath. I have chosen a few of their products that I really enjoyed. At the top is one of Kohler's new rain showers. The collection is called Rainhead. They sound fabulous. Here is Kohler's description:

"Innovative technology and great design combine to create a powerful, thoroughly drenching shower experience. KOHLER® Rainheads feature Katalyst™ technology, a revolutionary air induction system that intensifies water's rinsing ability and makes each drop feel bigger and perform better. Available in three styles and a range of sizes and finishes, solid brass rainheads, with enhanced nozzle configurations, deliver complete, even coverage."

Wow ~ making water more efficient ~ I'm up for that. Now onto to bathtubs. Below is one in the series Cast Iron BubbleMassage Baths. This tub sounds heavenly. Here's what Kohler says about them...


"Thousands of bubbles and durable, beautiful KOHLER® Cast Iron come together for the first time in four new BubbleMassage baths. Personalize your bathing experience with 18 levels of adjustability, Zones of Control and optional chromatherapy. The 360-degree staggered airjet design, along with targeted foot and lumbar airjets, delivers a full-body massage." Sign me up!

This is one of the new Karbon Lavatory Faucets. This design is brilliant. I love the versatility of water spray (type and angle). The appearance is so sleek and elegant. I can see specifying these in my designs. Here's how they describe this series:

"With two pivoting joints, the Karbon articulating bathroom lavatory faucet lets you put water exactly where you want it as you shave, wash your hands or rinse the basin. This multifunction sprayhead offers a gentle spray for grooming and a more forceful spray for cleaning. Available as a wall- or deck-mount faucet and in a variety of finishes, the faucet is WaterSense labeled and can save up to 14,700 gallons of water each year compared to faucets with standard aerators."


I love this vanity. It would solve problems for storage without a lot of mass in small bathrooms. I also like the wide counter that allows for items to be placed (e.g. soap dispenser, votive). This is part of the Persuade Collection. This one in the Petite Vanity with these specifics:

"Persuade petite vanity in Mantle with Persuade Curv integrated lavatory in Almond and Forté widespread lavatory faucet with sculpted lever handles in Vibrant® Brushed Nickel."


This is a wonderful and elegant design for those with children. A section of the cabinet may be locked to store medicines, etc. that little hands shouldn't be able to get to. They call this their Lockbox (go figure). "Keep personal items and medications safe with the rust- and chip-free Lockbox. Easy to add to existing 20" recessed or wall-mount mirrors, the Lockbox comes with two folding keys so the cabinet door can be closed with the key in the lock." Ok, if you do have unsafe items in there, take the key out :)


I am a sucker for shiny silver and sleek so this faucet really caught my eye. This is one in Kohler's new Stance line. I love the way it is contemporary but not harsh. There is lovely fluidity to the lines versus hard angles. Just my style. Here is what they say:

"A definitive expression of contemporary design, the Stance faucet collection asserts itself with strong, architectural lines. Featuring refined angles and edges, the faucet collection offers a striking design statement for modern living spaces. Lavatory faucets with water-saving aerators, bath fillers and high-performance showering components let you create a coordinated, modern bathroom."


Here is another new faucet line. This one, as with the Rainhead, is eco-friendly without compromising performance. This is one of the Insights Faucets with Hybrid Energy System. "Introducing the world's first touchless faucet to last 30 years. Insight faucets with the Hybrid energy system combine adaptive infrared technology with regenerative power to perform for decades to come. No maintenance. No batteries. No hassles."


Last but not least ~ here is a sample of the Kallos™ Spun Glass Undercounter Lavatory Collection. You all know my love of glass so this one is sheer beauty to me. The prisms would sparkle at me every morning and I would sparkle right back. Here's how Kohler describes this series:

"With the look of fine cut glass, the Kallos lavatory marries chic undercounter style and traditional artistry. Thoughtfully designed to conceal items stored beneath the lavatory, Kallos reflects light and color in captivating patterns. Ideal for bathroom settings, glass is exceptionally durable and quick-cleaning." Quick cleaning! That is just one of the perks of glass.

What I really like about some of these new introductions it the fact that they are eco-friendly and have safety in mind. That is how all design/product companies need to be thinking in my opinion.

Fun Friday ~ Norah Jones & Sasha Dobson

I had the pleasure of seeing Norah Jones with my husband a couple of weeks ago at the beautiful Warner Theatre in Washington, DC. I'm finally getting around to write about it. It was a wonderful show. Definitely worth seeing is you like soft jazz. Her band is wonderful. Her side kick ~ 'back-up' singer, Sasha Dobson, is amazing. She was the opening act for Norah. I would see her by herself too if you can. Here she is...

Thursday's Room(s) ~ White

White rooms have been covered a lot ~ true. I have covered them myself. For today's Thursday's Room, I revisit the white room. What is it about them that draws us in? For myself, I think it is the pureness. However, as you know if you read my blog, I think too much of a good thing can actually go bad. One of the things that makes a white room work for me is the pop. The room above is a fantastic example of a great pop. This room I actually found on Houzz in an 'ideabook' but clearly it first was published in Elle Decor. I like the color orange ~ in moderation. I love art! To me the art used in this room is a marriage made in heaven. The placement of the flowers and pillows in orange provides a wonderful rhythm sweeping one's eye from side to side. The furnishings are crisp and clean. The room is devoid of drapery again emphasizing the clean and crisp. The one thing lacking for me is texture. I love the look of the room but the overall feel is a bit sterile. I would love to see an odd shaped rug with a bit of texture on top of the rug they have placed. Perhaps an animal print in gray and white as I love gray and orange together. What do you think?

Here's some more white rooms that I like...

I found these beauties one of my favorite blogs of all times ~ Sarah Klassen's Haute Design. Sarah has impeccable taste. She found these at Brocade Home. These I find interesting because of the pops, patterns, and textures. In the last bedroom picture, the pop is actually another neutral ~ gray. The flowers are a lovely touch but clearly do not 'live' there all the time. The rhythm in the last photo is up and down ~ the area rug, to the duvet, to the pillows, to the chandelier and wallcovering. The first two bedrooms are simple one color pop but the architectural wall art makes a fabulous mark on these rooms. I also love the silver details.

Now for a bath...

Again, the pop of blue hues in the art and the black details in the zebra print area rug, welt, and throw brings a little something, something to add interest. Love the fireplace in the bath... oo la la! This photo is compliments of another 'ideabook' on Houzz.

And lastly, another living room...

This is a Jennifer Post design published in Architectural Digest. I love the contrast between the white and chocolate. The white just jumps off the chocolate and is a fabulous variation of the 'pop.' This is a soft white, with soft window treatments but clearly clean and crisp just not cold. I love how she outlined each piece in wood or a chocolate welt as if each piece is an art form warranting being framed.

Timeless Tuesday ~ Ten

For Timeless Tuesday number ten, charity ~ generous actions or donations to aid the poor, ill, or helpless ~ is my timeless classic for today.

The tender act of giving to another just for the sake of giving, aiding, and loving will never go out of style. Coming together as a community ~ community defined as anything from a neighborhood to the world as a whole ~ is a precious energy source that can make anything better, safer, cleaner......

I grew up with a mom that did charity work no matter how busy she was. She always found time to give back. That value was internalized by me hook, line, and sinker.

Charity is today's timeless classic. You know my main charity is the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter (LAWS). LAWS is a not for profit comprehensive organization aiding victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and sexual assault. The also do prevention work with parenting classes and counseling. Their link is always on my right sidebar. I am currently planning a Gala fundraising event for them. As the details solidify, I'll fill you in.

What's New & Functional

No Monday's Method today ~ no dilemmas to solve. So, I'll show you a couple of new products on the market. Tables specifically. While I was looking at new introductions, it reminded me of some antiques a client has. They are all multi-functional pieces. In those days, not as many furniture pieces were purchased as homes were smaller so they had to serve several purposes. That got me to thinking about today's multi-functional tables. I thought of a couple I have specified so I'll show you those as well.

Here are a couple new introductions. The first is the Plank collection from Palecek. I like these pieces to add a rustic moment in the room. Here is the cocktail table and console.

On to multi-functional. The table at the top is from Global Views. Here it is again is all its identities...




This is a great table for small spaces. It can be a dining table, a console, a game table...
