What's New ~ Barbara Barry for Global Views

When folks do not write in for advice for Monday's Method, I like to cover new items in the market. Barbara Barry is a favorite interior and product designer of mine. Has been for years. When she teamed up with one of my favorite vendors, I was intrigued. Here is a good representation of Barbara's collection...

Script Oval Tray in Ivory and Silver Framed Tray ~ I really love these; they're classic Barbara.

Luxe Organizers and Octet Tray with Mirror in Cocoa

Banded Ceramic Vases in White and Polished Tazza in White ~ I can see placing these in several design styles. I like that versatility.

Sphere of Light and Radiance Convex Mirror ~ I wonder if you can see the future in the sphere? I just couldn't resist saying that :)

I am actually on vacation right now so I won't have my usual week. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, I'll pay tribute to the color wheel and show representations of either rooms primarily in the color or a excellent use of the color as a pop. Yellow and blue on Tuesday, orange and purple on Wednesday, and red and green on Thursday. Friday will still be my fun day!

See you next week ~

Fun Friday ~ Harrison Ford

I set aside a Washington Post Parade that featured Harrison Ford. I am a fan of his work. I remember seeing Rearding Henry with my Mom shortly after my Dad died. We cried and cried. That movie left a mark on me.

I finally read the Parade story. He seems like such an honest man. Clearly attractive and an enormous star. He could have fell into the pit of Hollywood ~ being seen is the tabloids, having scandal after scandal, saying silly things then having to apologize, driving sports cars to show off his manhood.... But he didn't. He reminds me of another favorite of mine ~ Paul Newman.

Here's some visions to take you into the weekend. Read the Parade story ~ it's short and sweet. If the pictures and video don't make you smile, the article will.

Enjoy your weekend!

Viva Bohemia!

Here is my surprise ~ please welcome my guest writer... celebrity interior designer & author, Annette Tatum, has been designing for over 15 years. She is the creator of the home decor lines, House and Little House, as well as the newly launched Annette Tatum Collection. She also writes a wonderful blog, The Well Dressed Home. I'm so excited to have Annette as a guest on my blog. Pssst... I am a guest writer on her blog today ~ my Thursday's Room is over there.

Here's Annette's post...

I have long been a fan of the “well traveled” look of the Bohemian nomad. In fact, I dedicated a chapter to the Bohemian style in my new book, The Well Dressed Home. This remarkable style delivers fabrics from faraway lands, colors inspired by the desert and beads and heavy adornment from many exotic destinies. Such is the life of “Les Bohemians" - the free spirits and wanderers of the world.

To me, Bohemian style has always been the eclectic mixing from different cultures and places. I love that bohemian can be added to any room or wardrobe with just an accent. Like a drop-in-visitor whose life is on the road, Bohemian style makes its home anywhere. Layer in deep teal blues and crimson reds or invite tassels and beads into your room and you have the bohemian look. The “boho” is ethnic and exotic, daring and bold; the well worn symbol of a life well traveled. Double click on the pictures to enjoy them completely.
The “hip” look of boho-lux can be found in room décor as well.

A well layered room can invite and entertain those who rest there. Let your walls tell their tales of a journey to another land. Welcome visitors to share your travels with a display of your treasures.

Spring is the perfect time to introduce the vibrant colors and eclectic decor of the Bohemian style. Let loose and see where your imagination leads you.

Thank you Annette for your fantastic post! I'm going to look around my home and see where I can add Bohemian touches.

Timeless Tuesday ~

Yes, it's Timeless Tuesday. Today I am covering quality. Quality will always be timeless. It is one of the characteristics that is truly eco-friendly. Yesterday, I wrote about John Strauss ~ the wonderful furniture maker who also happens to produce high quality eco-friendly pieces. There is no compromise. That is how I feel about almost all exceptional quality pieces. If they last your lifetime and can be passed on to the next generation, that my friends is eco-friendly ~ longevity. That is why antiques are 'green.'

During the Washington Design Day that I was able to attend, I made a point of being at Stark Carpet. They had their supervising craftsman there showing us literally how they hand stitch their Wilton. He spoke about rugs coming back to their factory years after being purchased ~ not for repair ~ but for resizing or perhaps removing the border an affixing another one to compliment the customer's current palette (maybe the customer was the next generation that inherited the rug).

The meticulous work is evident rug after rug after rug.

They also have wonderful transitional designs made in the same timeless manner...

Quality ~ it will always be a classic. Strive for it every time you purchase a piece.

Now it is your turn to share your classics or trends you hope become timeless...

John Strauss

Happy Monday! If you're looking for Monday's Method ~ no one wrote in for advice today. No worries though, today I am writing about a wonderful furniture man ~ John Strauss. The beautiful piece above is the Louis Hall Table from his Deco Collection. Look at those gorgeous graceful legs.

I met John at High Point Market and had a chance to peruse his designs. I was enchanted. This is the piece that brought me to his showroom...

The Vida Poche from his Salon Collection. What I really like about his work is that it is unsual and it is green. Like myself, John is a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council.

John comes from a furniture and design family so I believe it is in his blood. His craftsmenship and attention to detail is fantastic. That is his dashing self above. Here is a smattering of his collections....
