Kristin Drohan Collection ~ Chip Chesterfield

I love this sofa! Kristin took a classic and turned it into a fantastic look for today. That's what I mean, she has a traditional start and then adds just the right spin to add interest. Each piece as eco-friendly as the next. No compromises. What's happening?! Why have I been featuring Kristin all these days? You'll find out in the next couple of days I promise!

Kristin Drohan Collection ~ Lois Chaise

Ok, so here we have the Lois Chaise. One of the most comfortable chaise I have ever sat in. It supports my back and has real arms! You know what I mean about chaises with wanna-be arms for appearance that aren't comfortable or functional. Kristin had this one in her master bedroom when she lived my way. Throw a lovely pillow on it and its a show stopper. Can you tell I'm leading up to something?

Kristin Drohan Collection ~ Anthony Ottoman

C'mon! It doesn't get any better when we are talking about sophisticated ottomans. Did you know that Kristin's furniture is completely customizable? It is. She can even have renderings produced for you designers out there with your fabric on it to show your clients. Not tacky renderings either. Something that really coveys what it will look like. That's a nice feature don't you think?

Kristin Drohan Collection ~ Erin Sofa

How about this sophisticated little number? The Erin Sofa. Clean and classic. Did you know that Kristin names her one of her pieces after a person? An actual person close to her. That's how personal her creations are to her.

Kristin Drohan Collection

Have you heard about the eco-friendly, high style Kristin Drohan Collection? If yes, you're in the know. If no, you will. Kristin is actually a friend of mine but that's not why I writing this post. Kristin's furniture fills a niche ~ the eco-friendly, durable, and stylish niche. Kristin, after having done many homes with children and pets who also wanted to be eco-friendly, noticed a lack of product in the marketplace. Sure there is eco-friendly not so much in a transitional ~ traditional realm. And not in a price conscious manner. Kristin got to work. She researched, sourced, researched some more, designed, designed, designed and viola ~ the Kristin Drohan Collection was born. Kristin continually researches, sources, and designs. Her work is never done. I believe her product line is about to explode. Is it widely known yet? No... but it will be in the next couple of weeks. So, I wanted to share my favorite pieces with you and the care and pride she takes with her line. It is really amazing. For the next few days I'll be featuring her creations. Do you like the one featured up top? I used these bar stools in a design and they just gorgeous. I'll get that project photographed soon and show you what I mean. Today I'm featuring a video of Kristin speaking about some very wonderful and interesting features of her furniture.

Fun Friday ~ Bathroom Makeover Contest

I receive emails all the time for folks wanting me to post something for them. Usually they would like me to show their work or support a product. I have shown work that I found to be very well done. Recently, I received an email from Ashley Albano ~ Public Relations, CSN Stores. It was about a contest for a bathroom makeover.

Did you see this? CSN Stores is an online company offering one lucky winner a bathroom makeover. I don't know anything about CSN Stores but it seems like a nice way to promote your company ~ give away a new bathroom. The best thing about it ~ they promise an eco-friendly bathroom. I'm all for that! So if you have one of these...

and you want one of these...

Source of picture ~ Natural Home Magazine

maybe you should hop on over there and enter the contest. Hey, ya never know! No, I didn't get anything for telling you about this. I didn't even tell them I was going to tell you. Just passing on what might be a very nice thing to happen to one of my readers. If you win, let me know. I'd love to see what they do for you.

Enjoy your weekend!

John Strauss

Happy Monday! If you're looking for Monday's Method ~ no one wrote in for advice today. No worries though, today I am writing about a wonderful furniture man ~ John Strauss. The beautiful piece above is the Louis Hall Table from his Deco Collection. Look at those gorgeous graceful legs.

I met John at High Point Market and had a chance to peruse his designs. I was enchanted. This is the piece that brought me to his showroom...

The Vida Poche from his Salon Collection. What I really like about his work is that it is unsual and it is green. Like myself, John is a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council.

John comes from a furniture and design family so I believe it is in his blood. His craftsmenship and attention to detail is fantastic. That is his dashing self above. Here is a smattering of his collections....

Thursday's Room

Today I am not speaking about one room. I was captivated by one of the rooms in this magnificent apartment but after reading the story, the whole place captivated me.

This beautiful creation was done by the ever talented Hariri & Hariri Architecture and published in Architectural Digest. These knowledgeable ladies were able to do the near impossible ~ turn an upscale Manhattan high rise apartment into an eco-friendly home. Please read the story in AD; what they did is practically unheard of ~ but they did it any way. Moxie. I like that. What stands out for me is space, scale and proportion. They opened up the space in several ways to reveal Manhattan and then populated the expanse with large scale, well proportioned furnishings.

Clearly this 'tree-hugger's' home is not short of glamour. Imagine having a dinner party on a clear night then being serenaded with that view. Breathtaking.

It is not short of refinement. Clean lines, elegant materials, pop of color.

It is not short of beauty. This tranquil spa bath is a far cry from 'crunchy.'

It is not short of functionality. How thoughtful ~ if they tire or run into writer's block, they can simply lay down and look at NYC for relaxation and inspiration.

It is not short of awe. Last Friday, I did a post on fantastic views to awaken to. I showed views of nature and ocean. This view is equally spectacular.

Doubters of elegant eco-friendly living ~ take note!

If Hariri & Hariri can turn this high-rise apartment into an sophisticated eco-friendly dwelling then there are such things as miracles. I believe, I believe....

I feel a tweet coming on....

Monday's Method ~ What's New?

Hmmm, no one had any interior design questions for me so my Monday's Method today will focus on 'What's New.' There are new products coming out at every market. When I visit my usual hautes at Market, it's difficult to see everything. I tend to go to their websites and click on the new product category. This week, I perused Palecek again. Here's a fact about Palecek ~ they have always been eco-friendly. For them it isn't a trend, never has been ~ it's just a way of life. That' pretty cool. Here are some of their new and relatively new items that caught my eye.....

The one at the top is the Colonial Lounge Chair. I am a sucker for the British Colonial style. I have always loved it. This chair features a plantation gemelina frame and hand carved leg detail. Double rattan matting is added for style.

The Bristol Arm Chair and it's partner below, the Bristol Side Chair.

These chairs have pole rattan frames and features a woven plantation mahogany back pattern, leather bindings, and a dark coffee finish. Gorgeous!
This is the Auburn Lounge Chair. Isn't it interesting? Wonderful texture. A rattan pole is used to create the frame and hand bent crazy weave design ~ cool!. A two tone coffee and warm brown finish is added. This chair may not look all that comfortable, but it is. They feature an elasticized spring fabric deck which provides long lasting comfort. This hot little number is the Bundle Stick Side Table. This table is created from sticks that are found and bundled together. No two are alike. They can add so much interest to any room as they cannot be classified to one particular style. I love that versatility.
This is the Colonial Table. I love its form and shape ~ classic! It is constructed with a plantation gemelina wood base and anegre veneer top. It is finished in yummy espresso and warm brown hues. I will use these as side tables, night tables, an accent table.... Again, the possibilities are abundant.
This mid-century styled table is called the Pasadena Side Table. It is constructed from plantation mahogany with a mahogany veneer top and multiple brown tone finish. This reminds me of furniture we had in my home growing up so it has a nice association. That's what caught my attention.
How about this beauty? The Pasadena Motion Coffee Table. Yes, its related to the table above and yup, it moves. The bottom can be aligned with the top or moved to accommodate a furniture grouping or party guests. Fabulous!

They also have some wonderful new mirrors that I like. The one is the Blue Capiz Mirror. I love the mixture of material ~ steel wire is formed into a sun design with Capiz shell details and a beveled mirror. This is a new and interesting way to use these ever popular shells. Beautiful!

White Looking Glass Mirror ~ I have seen very similar designs using this approach but I never seem to tire of it. I see this used in a grouping. It is a 22" square so several can be placed together connecting the ovals as such.....

I could do a whole wall with them!

The next two come in black or white.
These are the Dahlia Mirrors. Plantation tung wood is painted and hand carved to reveal natural wood tone details. A plain mirror sits in the center. I love the delicate wisps at the ends.

These are the Marabella Mirrors. Hand carved tung wood is painted and carved to reveal the natural wood tone carving. A plain mirror rests in the center. These are wonderful because you can hang them in either direction dependant on your needs.

And last, but not least, some fun wall art. First the Metal Dragonfly.....

and the lovely Metal Windblown Tree.

I like to mix materials with my wall decor. If I have have paintings or photographs as wall adornments, I try to add pieces such as the ones above to add diversity.

So tell me ~ do you like these new pieces? Where would you place them?

BTW ~ These pieces are available though The Beautiful Home Store and, as always, a portion of the purchase price is donated to charity.

Monday's Method is here for interior design advice. If you have a question, leave me a comment. If you have a specific interior design question to your home, drop me an email with a couple of photos ~ that will help me give better suggestions ~ paula@paulagracedesigns.com.
